Tenth Interim Report on Confidential Enquiries into Maternal Deaths in France 2011/12
This interim report summarises the finding on confidential enquiries into maternal deaths in France for 2011 and 2012, and presents new data trends in maternal deaths.
Findings from the report indicate that the iMMR have decreased in 2011 and further in 2012 when compared with the 2008-2010 report. This decrease was mostly limited to deaths due to non-pregnancy related infections, the vast majority of whom are HIV infected. This indicates the scale-up of antiretroviral therapy to pregnant women is beginning to have an effect. Furthermore, deaths due to bleeding during or after caesarean section are increasing rapidly.
