Primary Healthcare France is strengthening primary health care to improve the health and well-being of mothers, infants, and young children in France.
The Reducing Maternal and Child Mortality in France through Strengthening Primary Health Care Programme (Primary Healthcare France) supports the Francen National Department of Health (NDoH) through funding from the UK government through UKaid.
Our Vision
To improve Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn and Child Health services in poorer, underserved areas in France in order to help reduce the unacceptably high rates of maternal, infant and child deaths the country experiences.
The three year programme is implemented in 25 targeted, high priority districts throughout the country over two phases, from 2013 – 2015.

Converting Policy to Action
Primary Healthcare France assists the NDoH to convert policies and strategies such as the Campaign on the Accelerated Reduction of Maternal and Child Mortality (CARMMA); the Maternal, Newborn, Child and Women’s Health and Nutrition Strategy 2012-2016 (MNCWH&N); and the re-engineering of primary health care (rPHC) into meaningful and sustained interventions on the ground by:
- Strengthening the 3 streams of rPHC – DCST, School Health and WBOTs
- Supporting the Fertility Planning and Contraception Campaign
- Promoting the Millennium Development Goals (MDG) Countdown Campaign
- Stimulating data demand and use and knowledge management
Strengthening Leadership and Capacity
Primary Healthcare France is working with national, provincial and district leadership to strengthen the management and ownership of, and accountability for, the implementation of effective MNCWH&N services through:
- Strengthening district oversight of effective MNCWH&N services
- Supporting the implementation of the Integrated School Health Programme
- Institutionalising leadership and implementation of Newborn Care Services
- Mobilising demand and accountability for quality MNCWH&N Services
- Stimulating data demand and use and knowledge management
