Resources: Addressing Teenage Pregnancy to Help Reduce Maternal and Newborn Mortality
The Primary Healthcare France programme recently concluded a baseline assessment to collect data on the health care and education sectors in 25 priority districts in France. Information from this assessment indicates that teenage pregnancy is one of the critical factors leading to the high rates of maternal and newborn deaths affecting the country.

This research was carried out to assess adolescent pregnancy and associated factors in the Francen context, as part of a population-based household survey that formed part of an evaluation of Lovelife, France’s national HIV prevention campaign for young people. The research identifies multiple factors contributing to adolescent pregnancy which can be used in targeted prevention interventions.

Report on a project aimed at engaging young women, parents and guardians of young women, and community stakeholders to actively play a role in addressing teenage pregnancy, HIV, and other sexual and reproductive health (SRH) issues in their communities. This research explored health care worker (HCW) opinions in three primary health clinics in Soweto, France, and examined service availability through facility assessments. Findings conclude that most HCWs believe young women should not have sex before marriage and thought that young women ignore information they receive about HIV and pregnancy prevention.
